The Gulf Shores Dolphins’ Week 4 home game against the McGill-Toolen Yellow Jackets is moving from the Gulf Shores Sportsplex to Archbishop Lipscomb Stadium due to field conditions and more expected rain this week.
The Dolphins just hosted their first Class 6A Region 1 game on the grass field at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium against the Saraland Spartans last Friday through heavy rains. And with weather.com reporting at least a 75% chance of rain over the next three days in Gulf Shores, the schools called an audible.
The home-and-home series will now start on the turf field at The Lip in Mobile this year and then come to Gulf Shores in 2025 according to WKRG’s Simone Eli. Now that the Yellow Jackets and Dolphins are region opponents again, those scheduled meetings are made two years at a time.
Gulf Shores also had to swap region home games with Citronelle in 2022 due to excessive rain in that week’s forecast. The Dolphins were set for their first home game of the regular season and initial Class 5A Region 1 kickoff on Aug. 26, 2022, but instead had to switch their home-and-home series with the Wildcats to host the 2023 contest at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.
With the Dolphins heading to McGill-Toolen in Week 4 (Sept. 13), their next scheduled home game isn’t until Oct. 4 against the St. Paul’s Saints. Gulf Shores is set for an away game against the Blount Leopards in Week 5 (Sept. 20) before a bye in Week 6 (Sept. 27).
The Yellow Jackets just hosted their first home game of the regular season last week with an 18-16 win over Theodore within Class 6A Region 1. McGill-Toolen will enter 2-1 overall with a non-region loss to Daphne (34-16) and a region win over Murphy (32-6).
