Former Gulf Shores quarterback Brandon Silvers is no longer playing under Friday night lights along Alabama’s Gulf Coast — he’s now leading a professional offense as the starting quarterback for the St. Louis Battlehawks in the United Football League.
Silvers made the most of his first full opportunity as a starter, completing 16 of 28 passes for 198 yards and a touchdown in a season-opening win over the DC Defenders. The victory also featured a matchup against fellow Baldwin County native Trae Barry, the Defenders’ long snapper.
Silvers’ opportunity is not new, but his role has expanded. The 32-year-old has been part of spring football leagues since 2019, beginning with the Memphis Express in the Alliance of American Football. He later spent time with the Seattle Dragons and Houston Roughnecks before the XFL and USFL merged to form the UFL.
Through three UFL game appearances, Silvers has thrown for 403 career yards. Across seven seasons in various spring leagues, he holds a 12-6 record as a starter, totaling 3,970 passing yards and 34 touchdowns.
In 2024 and 2025, Silvers was a member of the Battlehawks teams that finished as runner-up, serving as the backup to Alabama BCS National Champion AJ McCarron in 2024. On April 12, that relationship between the two will shift as Silvers is set to face McCarron — who is now the head coach of the Birmingham Stallions.
The Battlehawks are scheduled to face the Dallas Renegades for their next matchup on Tuesday, April 7, as Silvers looks to build on his early-season performance and help position St. Louis for a third consecutive trip to the championship game.
