St. Michael Catholic will look to make program history Thursday night when it hosts UMS-Wright in the week 11 Gulf Coast Media Game of the Week.
The Cardinals (9-0, 6-0 in 4A Region 1) can secure their first undefeated regular season in school history with a win over the Bulldogs (6-3, 5-2 in 5A Region 1). The teams have met just once before, a 2024 matchup that saw St. Michael take a 35-28 victory.
Led by junior quarterback Gunner Rivers, the Cardinals have been dominant on offense all of 2025. Rivers has thrown for 2,148 yards and 38 touchdowns with only one interception — making a solid case for Mr. Alabama Football. Senior running back and South Alabama commit Noah Moss has added 1,373 yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground, while senior receiver and fellow South Alabama commit Brody Jones has caught 50 passes for 772 yards and 15 scores. Other top targets for Rivers include Tucker Tomlinson, Brayden Smith and Braedyn Walton.
Defensively, senior linebacker Nick Russo leads the way with 52 tackles and seven tackles for loss. Junior linebacker Cam Kerbal has added 41 tackles alongside him, while Jones and senior Kamarjay Lavoie have combined for seven of the team’s 13 interceptions. After a 2024 season full of close games, the Cardinals have won every contest this year by at least nine points and boast an average point differential of 29.1.
UMS-Wright enters the matchup led by junior quarterback Max Fowler, who has thrown for 1,588 yards and 15 touchdowns and added 283 rushing yards with seven more scores. Junior Richard Scott has been the Bulldogs’ top all-purpose threat, contributing 420 rushing yards, 474 receiving yards and six total touchdowns. Receiver John Bloch has added another 342 yards through the air for Fowler.
Senior linebacker Perry Hand anchors the UMS defense with 83 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and six interceptions — leading the team in all of those categories. Alongside him are seniors Logan Loftin and John Ellis Pritchard; a trio that has combined for 9.5 sacks. The Bulldogs have forced 17 interceptions and five fumbles this season.
Kickoff is set for Thursday, Oct. 30, at St. Michael Catholic High School in Fairhope. Both teams will begin their playoff runs next week.
