GlenLakes and Rock Creek golfers shine through all ages at local and junior championships

Posted

Golfers from GlenLakes Golf Club teed it up last weekend for the MGA Club Championship, while juniors from Baldwin County also shined at a US Kids Tour in Fairhope.

Cliff Johnson rose above the field at GlenLakes to claim the title. Johnson opened with a steady 2-over 74 on Friday and continued his consistency on Saturday with an 82, finishing with a 156 on the Dunes to Vista layout.

While GlenLakes’ veterans were making their mark on club championship weekend, one of the club’s youngest members also grabbed headlines. Zane Champion, competing on the Rock Creek US Kids Tour, shined with a winning +4 (40 through 9 holes) performance in the 10-year-old division.

22 other junior boys golfers from Baldwin County competed at the Rock Creek US Kids Tour as well. Matthew Deroy from Foley shot +3 on 18 holes to place first in the 13-14 boys division while Fairhope’s Campbell Hughes fired a +7 through 18 for the top spot in the 15-18 boys division.

On the girls side at Rock Creek, 10 junior golfers represented Baldwin County. Bailee Reaper from Spanish Fort was the only outright winner from the county, winning the 15-18 girls division with a +11 through 18 holes.
