A group of felines are set to take over the Fairhope Bluffs.
Not the catnip sniffing, claw scratching furry felines but the singing and dancing type.
The 11th Annual Theatre on the Bluff is approaching, and the thespians of Eastern Shore Repertory Theatre (ESRT) will bring Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical "Cats" to Fairhope.
"Cats," one of the longest-running shows in the West End and Broadway history, received its world premiere at the New London Theatre in 1981 where it played for 21 years and almost 9,000 performances. The ground-breaking production was the winner of the Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for Best Musical. In 1983 the Broadway production became the recipient of seven Tony Awards including Best Musical and ran for 18 years.
Since its world premiere, "Cats" has been presented in over 30 countries, has been translated into 15 languages and has been seen by more than 73 million people worldwide. Both the original London and Broadway cast recordings won Grammy Awards for Best Cast Album.
ESRT will bring "Cats" to the 11th Annual Theatre on the Bluff May 2-4, directed by Erin Langley with choreography by Matthew Kiel and costume design by Shirlee Idzakovich. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. and gates open at 6:30 p.m. each evening. Tickets are on sale now and will be available at the gate if the show does not sell out.
