Four Fairhope arrests linked to recent break-ins

FAIRHOPE, Ala.—Four men arrested in the past week have been connected to a number of recent break-ins, according to the Fairhope Police Department.

“Yes, the four arrests made in the past week are related to the series of burglaries that we alerted the public about on July 9,” FPD spokesperson Lt. Stephanie Hollinghead said by email this week, referring to the department's Facebook post on July 9.

That Facebook post stated that break-ins were on the rise in the area and urged residents to secure belongings, lock vehicles, and take other precautions.

“Jarvis Safford was arrested for the burglary in the 600 block of Fairland Avenue, Curtis Reed was arrested for the burglary on Rockwell Lane and the two vehicle thefts the same night, and Aubrey Singleton and Tyler Gilmore were charged with theft of lawn equipment from Summit Street and Pecan Street,” Hollinghead stated. “These subjects were charged with a few specific crimes and may be suspects in other burglaries that have not yet been closed.

“The four do not appear to be connected (with each other) but are a display of what we typically see during the summer months and holidays,” she said.

The FPD's July 9 Facebook post stated that since July 3 the department had received reports of more than a dozen incidents, which included alleged burglaries at two downtown businesses, several vehicle thefts, and a number of automobile break-ins and thefts of property.

“We have had seven guns stolen from unlocked vehicles since the beginning of July, and this has always been our primary concern,” Hollinghead told The Courier on Wednesday. “Extra patrols and targeted patrols have been put into place as we hope to curb the typical summer spike in thefts and burglaries.”

Safford, 18, of Fairhope, is charged with third-degree burglary and being held at the Baldwin County Corrections Center on a $6870 bond, according to online county records.

Reed, 36, of Fairhope, is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, third-degree burglary and attempting to elude, and is being held on a $41,000 bond.

“We are very pleased with the four arrests that were made, but we always want to encourage residents to keep their vehicles and homes locked and, most importantly, to properly secure firearms,” Hollinghead said.
