FOLEY, Ala. - Both teams turned the ball over in the final two minutes, but it was the Foley Lions who had the ball when the seconds ticked off giving them the 35-28 win over the Enterprise Wildcats Friday night.
With under 2:00 remaining in the game and the Wildcats down by a touchdown, the Wildcats stripped the ball away with 1:52 remaining giving them the ball on their own 29-yard-line.
A few plays later the Wildcats returned the favor by fumbling the ball in the backfield icing the game for the Lions.
After coming off a tough defeat at the hands of the Daphne Trojans a week ago the Lions encountered another very tough and important region game against the Wildcats; making the last few minutes for head coach Todd Watson and the rest of the Lions a very tense time.
“They knew how big this game was and the importance of it, having a region win to close out the first half of the season was huge and we did it against a very good football team and that makes it even more important.
“We are very excited to get this win.”
The win may not have happened for coach Watson and the Lions if it wasn’t for the stellar play from their running back Isaiah Lewis who ran for more than 200 blistering yards on Friday.
It was clear from the opening kick-off that the Wildcats were going to have a tough time bringing the down the tuff runner who has been compared to a bowling ball rolling down a hill.
“It was what we expect from him. Our offensive line did a great job all night and that is what we are used to seeing from him,” Watson said.
Lewis was not alone on Friday night, the offense did make plays that started with the arm of quarterback Tyler Cameron.
Cameron completed nine passes on the night for over 130 yards. He also threw and ran for three touchdowns on the night.
“We didn’t do much passing in the first half because we had so much success on the ground but we felt like if we kept the ball inside it would open things up and we had to wait for the right time to hit it,” Watson said. “Tyler made some good throws and some guys made some big plays.”
After a back-and-forth first half that led to a 14-14 lead for the Lions at the break. The second half ended up being a prize boxing fight that saw both teams land blow after blow. With under 8:00 to go in the game and the Lions down by a single point the last haymaker was landed this time to the head of the Wildcats. Lewis rumbled 25-yards down the field for the game winning touchdown for the Lions.
The Lions improved to 3-1 overall and 2-1 within the region and will host Jackson on Friday at 7 p.m.
