Foley Friday series finale

FOLEY, Ala. — The city of Foley has wrapped up another edition of its Friday combo presentation, Chicago Street Farmers Market and Music & a Movie. And even last week’s final installment drew crowds.

“I think it was just as successful as ever,” Foley Leisure Tourism Marketing Director LaDonna Hinesley said.

The market boasted approximately 18 vendors for each of the more than 10 weeks that ended last Friday. As for how many people shopped, Hinesley said calculating that proved impossible. However, patrons descended on the booths throughout the late spring and into the summer.

“It was a steady stream,” she said.

Vendor Jimmy Dean of Fire Roasted Corn, who sold his produce at each installment, said he was happy with the entire season.

“We had a great summer, even with it raining,” Jimmy Dean of Fire Roasted Corn said. “We kind of wish it would go a little bit longer.”

Also boasting a great summer was the second leg of the day, Music & a Movie, which featured live entertainment followed by the outdoor showing of a family-friendly film.

“We just saw record attendance, despite the weather,” Hinesley said.

However, the weather did interfere a little. The first night’s film was canceled, as was last week’s attempt to reschedule it — all thanks to rain. However, Hinesley said that didn’t keep people for coming out and enjoying the live entertainment and children’s activities.

“It was fun to see the kids out playing in the park,” Hinesley said.
