The first-ever Seacrest Furniture Athlete of the Year, selected from nearly 21,000 votes from Gulf Coast Media readers, is officially Fairhope sophomore Libby Rogers.

The Pirate volleyball player cruised through the 32-athlete bracket of weekly winners as the highest vote-getter of all five rounds.

Rogers was the Week 2 winner with a standout performance in the Labor Day Classic Tournament. The setter racked up 168 assists, 33 kills, 14 aces and 3 blocks to earn Tournament MVP honors as Fairhope opened the season on a 7-0 run. With a 41-16 overall mark on the year, the Pirates set a single-season record for wins following a seventh consecutive trip to the South Super Regionals.

Over 128 sets played, Rogers racked up 880 assists for 6.9 assists per set on 2,742 attempts with only 29 errors according to MaxPreps stats. She also registered 160 kills, 54 service aces for 374 rotation points on 618 serve attempts on top of 7 blocks and 50 block assists for 57 total blocks, as well as 385 digs. Her 880 assists ranked No. 20 in the state on MaxPreps’ leaderboards.

After wins over three football players in the first three rounds, Rogers took down Baldwin County junior softball player Madilyn Byrd in the semifinals to earn the right to fight for the inaugural Seacrest Furniture Athlete of the Year title.

Daphne junior wrestler Kalyse Hill was the other finalist fresh off her third straight individual state title. She beat a Fairhope track athlete in the first round before three fellow Daphne Trojans, including senior football player John Davis in the semifinals, to earn her championship berth.

Out of 32 weekly winners that represented 11 schools and 10 sports, Rogers was the last one standing and can add to her trophy case as the first-ever Seacrest Furniture Athlete of the Year. Stay tuned for the full celebration and story behind Rogers’ run to the championship.
