Baldwin County will be well represented at the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s state tournament after three local teams claimed sectional championships and three more secured runner-up finishes to punch their ticket to the last meet of the season.
The Fairhope Pirates swept Class 7A Section 1 with the team title on both the girls’ and boys’ sides featuring wins in all but one of the brackets. The Spanish Fort Toro boys’ team collected its fourth consecutive Class 6A Section 2 championship with three singles wins and two doubles victories.
The Daphne Trojans (Class 7A) and Bayside Academy Admirals (Class 4A-5A) also had both girls’ and boys’ teams qualify for the state tournament where Daphne is similarly state-bound for the fourth straight season.
The Bayside Academy girls’ team will compete in its second straight tournament on the Class 4A-5A level after a state title in 2022 on the Class 1A-3A stage. The Admiral girls’ team has qualified for all but one state tournament since the school opened in 2001.
Also in Class 4A-5A, Tereza Mojs — a freshman at Gulf Shores High School — grinded out a 6-2, 4-7, 10-8 win in her battle against Sarah Ladd from UMS-Wright to win her second consecutive individual sectional title in the No. 1 singles slot.
Both Bayshore Christian Eagle teams took home third-place finishes in Class 1A-3A where the boys’ team won one bracket each in the singles and doubles tournaments. The girls’ squad collected three victories in singles play and finished second in another doubles bracket.
Individually in Class 6A, Robertsdale’s Jordan Janey earned a runner-up finish in the No. 2 singles bracket.
