Daphne & Robertsdale usher in new era with varsity basketball hires

Two Baldwin County boys basketball programs will enter next season under new leadership after Robertsdale promoted assistant coach Terrence Pinkney, while Daphne did the same on the Eastern Shore by promoting veteran assistant coach Garreth Trawick.

PROMOTION IN ROBERTSDALE

Robertsdale elevated Pinkney after he spent last season as an assistant with the Golden Bears.

Pinkney previously coached at Hillcrest-Evergreen, where he compiled 169 career wins, captured five area championships and led teams to two Final Four appearances, two Elite Eight appearances and four Sweet 16 appearances. He guided Hillcrest-Evergreen to the 2023-24 state championship after leading the program to the Final Four in the previous season as well.

The new Golden Bears head basketball coach has also developed six players who signed to play college basketball, and served as the South coach in the 2024 AHSAA North-South All-Star Game.

Pinkney replaces Marshall Davis Jr., who is transitioning into a new role as Robertsdale's Coordinator of Athletic Support and Community Relations.

Davis leaves behind one of the most successful coaching tenures in school history, recording over 200 wins in 18 seasons — all at Robertsdale — while leading the Golden Bears to an Elite Eight appearance, a regional runner-up finish, an area championship, a county championship, seven playoff appearances and six winning seasons.

"As I step into this new role, I am excited to continue serving Robertsdale High School and Golden Bear Athletics in a different capacity," Davis Jr. said in a statement to the community. "My deep connection to this community, along with my experience across various athletic programs and sports, will allow me to support our coaches, student-athletes, families and supporters in a meaningful way. I remain confident that the foundation we have built will help ensure a strong and successful future for our básketball team and athletic program. As I enter my 20th year at Robertsdale High School, I am proud to continue my journey as a Golden Bear. And as our fight song concludes: 'GO BEARS!'"

A FAMILIAR FACE IN THE JUBILEE CITY

The Trojans promoted Trawick to head coach of their boys basketball program after he spent the 2024-26 seasons as a teacher and assistant coach.

Trawick joined Daphne High after departing St. Luke's following the 2023-24 season, where he served as athletic director, head basketball coach and teacher.

He brings 13 years of coaching experience and a 256-215 overall record, leading his teams to 10 area championships, five Southwest Regional championships and five Final Four appearances. His track record also includes four state runner-up finishes and multiple Coach of the Year honors.

"I am very grateful and excited for the opportunity to continue being a part of the game of basketball at Daphne High School," Trawick said. "This is a special opportunity to lead a program with a strong tradition and a community that takes great pride in Daphne athletics."

Trawick replaces Reed Hotard, who posted a 78-64 record over four seasons at Daphne and guided the Trojans to an Elite Eight appearance.
