DAPHNE — Mysteries abound during June as the Daphne Public Library presents the 2007 Summer Reading Program.

Young readers are encouraged to “get a clue” this summer by reading mysteries, myths and legends, a spokesperson said. Four age groups will meet at various times of the week for stories, crafts, and other activities.

Toddler time (18 months to 3-year-olds) will take place Thursdays, 10 a.m., and 10:45 am. Toddlers explore and discover stories and songs.

Preschool children can attend the story and craft gatherings on Thursdays in June with a choice of 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. sessions. Parents can choose the session that best fits their schedule. Sessions will last about 30 minutes each.

Story choices include “Olivia and the Missing Toy,” “Who Stole the Cookies?” ‘Ten Little Mummies” and more.

Juniors include children from kindergarten through second grade. Juniors may attend the story and craft gatherings on Wednesdays in June with a choice of 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. or 3 p.m. sessions. Parents may choose the session that best fits their schedule. Sessions will last from 30 to 45 minutes each. Story choices will include “Young Cam Jansen,” ‘Bill and Pete Go Down the Nile,” “Hedgie Blasts Off!” and more.

Tweens include readers from third through fifth grade. Tweens will have an activity session on Tuesdays in June at 2 p.m. Sessions will last about one hour. Programs will include Carol Harrison with the Border Patrol, Master Tomaso with self-defense techniques and educator Jo Graven discussing the myths and facts about sharks.

The Daphne Public Library will have a kick-off party from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, June 1. Accordion player Julie Council will entertain the children while they bounce around on moonwalks, have hot dogs and popcorn, and pick up their summer reading packets.

Four entertainers will appear at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays during June including The Magic Guy Skip Cain on June 5; puppeteer Bob Parsons on June 12; drummer Mark Seymour with his program “Be-AT your Best” on June19; and Monsters from the Deep on June 26. Entertainment sessions are open to all age groups and will be held in the Daphne Recreation Department.
