Daphne alum Vic Moten closing in on Alabama softball freshman records

Posted

Vic Moten is not far off from being immortalized among the all-time Alabama softball greats in her debut season in Tuscaloosa.

The 2025 Daphne High School alum is just a freshman on the Crimson Tide roster, but she has quickly developed into one of the most feared aces in the SEC. Alabama currently sits No. 5 nationally in the polls and is second in the conference behind powerhouse Oklahoma, with Moten playing a major role in that success.

In 19 appearances this season, Moten has recorded 116 strikeouts, which ranks sixth in the conference. That total is also just 77 shy of the legendary Montana Fouts' freshman record set in 2019.

Moten is already nearing a place among the program's single-season leaders as well, nearly halfway to cracking Alabama's top 10 for strikeouts in a season. She also carries a 1.80 ERA, continuing to trend toward Fouts' freshman records with a 1.39 set back in 2019.

Her dominance extends beyond the strikeout numbers. Moten is holding opposing hitters to a .152 batting average, the fifth-lowest mark in the SEC. That figure would not only set an Alabama freshman record but also rank as the third-best all-time in program history.

With four conference series left and likely a postseason run incoming for the Crimson Tide, Moten may get 15 more appearances which should have her shattering multiple program records.

Moten and Alabama softball will hit the road to The Plains this weekend when they take on rival Auburn.
