As the college football season ends and teams shift their focus to the offseason, Baldwin County's former high school standouts continue to leave their mark across the collegiate landscape, whether it's through the transfer portal, postseason appearances or impactful on-field play they hope leads to bigger roles in the year to come.
As the offseason truly begins, Fairhope's Blayne Myrick is the most recent county native who has officially moved on, leaving South Alabama to continue his career at Miami (Ohio). Baldwin County alum Ty Mims also found a new home, transferring from Texas State to UAB. His younger brother, TI Mims, remains in the transfer portal with odds now favoring the Blazers to land him as well.
Former Foley wide receiver Perry Thompson has signed with Minnesota after committing a few weeks ago, while Orange Beach's Chris Pearson remains in the portal, seeking a new destination for his junior season.
Recapping the recently concluded college season where Miami fell to Indiana in the national title game, the contest featured Spanish Fort alum Cole McConathy II. The Miami freshman did not play in the game. He was also not the only county product in the playoffs, as Daphne's Talib Graham participated in Ole Miss's postseason run.
On the field, former Fairhope quarterback Caden Creel impressed at Jacksonville State as a first-year starter. The former Pirate finished the season with 2,589 total yards and 16 touchdowns.
At NC State, redshirt freshman Ronnie Royal II became a frequent contributor to the Wolfpack defense. The Gulf Shores alum ended his debut season with 49 tackles and an interception that sealed a win over Wake Forest.
Daphne alum Trent Battle wrapped up his college career with a productive final season at TCU as part of a four-back rotation. The senior finished with 349 yards on 64 carries and six touchdowns.
At the FCS level, freshmen Kolten Nero (Foley) and Bishop Burkhalter (Spanish Fort) both turned in strong performances as rotational players. Nero rushed for 247 yards and four touchdowns at Alabama A&M, while Burkhalter recorded 22 tackles and a tackle for loss at North Alabama.
