Joe Smeraglia had two goals while Howard Hadley and Conner Cody had a goal apiece for the Saints, who visit Alethia in Pensacola in Panhandle Christian Conference play on Tuesday.

The Saints held a 1-0 lead at the half on Smeraglia's first goal. They added goals from Smeraglia and Cody in the second half and Hadley scored on a penalty kick.

"I thought we played well considering we were playing some guys in different positions today," Central Christian coach Dan Crotts said. "I thought that some of our young guys came out and played well."

Crotts said he was pleased with the play of midfielder Jesse Parker.

"Jesse won a lot of balls for us," Crotts said. "He played very well at midfield."

Bayshore Christian's Eagles will return to play in two weeks with games Sept. 26 and 27. The Eagles are in their inaugural season of fall soccer and do not have any seniors on the roster.

"They have improved so much since the last game," Bayshore head coach Lauren Marsh Brown said. "Our older kids who have a little more experience are stepping up. I thought we hung in there well with them until the second half. We just need to make it to the second half of a game. Once we got tired there we lost focus and (Central) took control."

Brown was pleased with the play of Jack Stevens, who filled in at keeper for Bayshore in the absence of the team's starters at the position.

"I was so, so glad Jack was there in goal for us," she said. "He usually plays midfield, but we were missing our two keepers and Jack stepped up. I was impressed."
