Four Baldwin County volleyball teams are heading to Birmingham to battle for the Blue Map trophies after advancing through the AHSAA South Regionals this past week.
Teams needed two regional wins to qualify for the state tournament bracket.
Bayside Academy led the county in Class 7A with a runner-up finish. The Admirals eliminated county rival Daphne in the opening round, defeated St. Paul's in round two, and fell to McGill-Toolen in the championship match. Fairhope also competed in 7A but was eliminated by the eventual champions in the opening round.
In Class 6A, Spanish Fort claimed the South Regional title, defeating Chelsea, Pike Road and Saraland to earn the top seed from the region. Gulf Shores was eliminated in round one by Spain Park. Elberta came up one win shy of the 5A state bracket, losing to Montgomery Catholic in round two after beating Elmore County in the opening round.
Orange Beach finished as runner-up in Class 4A, beating Fairfield, Straughn and Geneva before falling to Prattville Christian in the title match. St. Michael reached the third-place match with wins over Indian Springs and American Christian Academy before being eliminated by Prattville Christian and Geneva.
The state tournaments will be played Oct. 28-30 at Birmingham's Crossplex and Bill Harris Arena. In the opening rounds, Bayside will face Thompson (7A), Spanish Fort meets Oxford (6A), Orange Beach plays West Morgan (4A) and St. Michael takes on Cherokee County (4A).
