Children and families packed the lot behind the Foley Public Library on Saturday, Oct. 11, for the second annual Big Rigs @ the Library: A Touch-a-Truck Event.
From 9 to 11 a.m., the area behind the library at 319 E. Laurel Ave. transformed into a showcase of massive machinery, flashing lights and revving engines. The event, a partnership between the library and the Foley Street Department, offered families a chance to climb, touch and explore the vehicles that keep the city running.
Tractors, backhoes, trackhoes and bucket trucks lined the area as city crews demonstrated how the heavy equipment operates. Visitors also got a closer look at specialized vehicles from the Foley Police Department, Foley Fire Department and other local agencies.
Beyond the big machines, the family-friendly event included yard games, a giant sand pile, live entertainment from a one-man band and sweet treats from Kona Ice and a local coffee truck.
Organizers said the goal of the event was to give children a hands-on learning experience and a behind-the-scenes look at the tools city workers use every day.
The Big Rigs @ the Library event was free and open to the public. For more information about upcoming library programs, call (251) 943-7665 or visit www.foleylibrary.org.
