A pair of Bayside Academy athletes recently took their talents to the national stage and competed at indoor track meets against top athletes from around the United States.

Senior Lafayette signee Madeline Dudley high jumped at the Nike Indoor Nationals at The Armory in New York and eighth grader Avery Therrell raced in the 800-meter run at the New Balance Indoor Nationals at The Track in Massachusetts. Both Admiral athletes competed in the same meets last season.

Dudley high jumps in New York City

In the emerging elite division, Dudley registered a high jump clearance of 4’ 11” (1.50m) and recorded a tie for 22nd place at Nike Indoor Nationals. The result mirrored her performance from last year’s event with the same height and placement.

Dudley’s personal-record mark on the indoor circuit sits at 5’ 2” which ranks second in Bayside Academy’s record book on athletic.net. She’s the long jump record holder with a distance of 17’ 2.25” to go along with a fourth-place spot in the shot put (27’ 4.25”) and sixth-place spots in the 60-meter dash (8.69) and triple jump (31’ 1”).

At the AHSAA Indoor Track State Championships this winter, Dudley tied her personal-record clearance in the high jump to earn a silver medal and added a 14’ 6” long jump to finish 13th.

A bronze medal also came home with Dudley from the USA Track and Field National Youth Combined Event Championships last summer in New York. She won the long jump (16’ 0.25”), logged runner-up finishes in the 200-meter dash (28.06), high jump (4’ 11”) and shot put (27’ 9.75”) and took third in the 800-meter run (2:41.82), 100-meter hurdles (18.27) and javelin (66’ 3.75”) to rack up 3,510 heptathlon points which left her third overall.

Therrell runs in Boston

In the middle school division, Terrell crossed the 800-meter finish line in 2:29.05 to come away with 51st place overall at New Balance Indoor Nationals. At last year’s event, Therrell used a 2:24.12 to finish 20th and a 5:33.01 mile time for 29th overall.

Most recently, Therrell was part of the Admirals’ 4x400- and 4x800-meter relay teams that won their events with new school-record times at the indoor state championships. Therrell helped earn gold medals with respective times of 4:13.60 and 9:58.95.

Therrell also represented Bayside Academy at the Nike Outdoor Nationals last summer and competed in the 400-meter dash (1:03.25 for 27th) and 800-meter run (2:20.75 for 9th).

The Admiral record book on athletic.net shows Therrell in fifth overall in the 400-meter dash (1:04.58) on top of fourth-place positions in the 800-meter run (2:28.18) and 1600-meter run (5:30.17).
