DAPHNE — Bay Rivers Art Guild will hold a children’s summer art camp June 18-22, June 25-29, July 9-13 and July 16-20 at BRAG headquarters on 1704 Sixth St.
Children ages 3 to 13 are eligible for weekly sessions, which are $50 each for members or $75 for non-members, Lynn Rios, BRAG office manager said.
Proceeds will go toward supplies for next year’s summer sessions.
This year’s program includes the following classes:

Admission cost for classes includes snacks and most supplies. A 10 percent overall discount will be applied for multiple registrations, Rios said.
“We do have members that are willing to sponsor children that are in (financial) need,” Rios said. “We evaluate those situations on an individual basis as they arise.”
This is BRAG’s second year for the summer art program, which last year unsuccessfully attempted to enroll high school students, Rios said.
“The high school students did not respond,” she said. “I guess most of them were working.”
To reach “little Picassos” who have a lot of free time — and no summer jobs — Rios said BRAG lowered their eligibility age to 3.
“We’re offering more courses for the tiny children,” she said. “We’re getting good response; much better than last year.”
A 3-year-old isn’t too young to benefit from the program, Rios said.
“Actually, it’s kind of cute and they get very excited about it when they come in,” she said. “They’re read a story and then after the story, they’re given crayons or paints, or whatever, and asked to paint a picture of the story; something that they liked, and then they can take it home with them and share it with their parents.”
Parents can enjoy their children’s art work and get in a little “me” time by sending the kids off to art camp, BRAG president Valley O’Neal said.
“This is a great place to bring your kids when they’re driving you crazy during the summer; mom’s sanity time,” she said with a laugh.
Seriously, she said, this year’s program has already shown improvement from the inaugural session.
“I just think that we are growing,” O’Neal said. “We’ve doubled our classes this year.
She added, “We think that the young moms of the area will appreciate what we’re doing with the kids.
“They’re taught, and at the same time, they’re inspired and they’re having a great time. And on top of that, they get snacks and break time.”
