GULF SHORES — Artists, musicians, and food will fill the Lake Shelby Picnic Area of Gulf State Park March 4 -5.
The Ballyhoo Festival is a fine arts festival and cultural exchange held annually. Each year, organizers work to grow the popular event. This year's festival will welcome 120 artists from 15 states.
The family-friendly event promises a weekend full of performances by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, fiddle and banjo competitions in partnership with the Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival and Flora-Bama.
The heart of this festival is the cultural exchange with the Poarch Band of Creek Indians who will perform original tribal dances in ceremonial regalia. The Poarch Creek Indians will perform Saturday, March 4 at 11 a.m. and again at 4 p.m.
Alcoholic drinks are a new addition to this year's festival. The Coastal Alabama Business Chamber will be on-site selling a variety of beverages.
This festival is a food lover's delight. Food vendors will be selling everything from authentic Creole food from Rouxle Rouge who is coming from New Orleans, Asian grab and go, as well as Greek and Mediterranean food. The Kiwanis Club of Gulf Shores will be cooking hot dogs and hamburgers and Ashley and Tim Delaney will have their famous Waffle Bar.
Visitors are encouraged to utilize the bike and walking trails in Gulf State Park to reach the Lake Shelby picnic area. Shuttles will be provided from the Gulf State Pier parking area and Gulf State Park Beach Pavilion parking area. All parking site fees are controlled by the State of Alabama and the Gulf State Park.
