In a county known for producing elite softball talent year after year, it didn't take long for Baldwin County athletes to leave their mark on the 2026 college season.
Opening weekend featured many local products competing at the next level, led by dominant pitching performances at Alabama and a breakout ULL freshman. While only a few names filled the stat sheet on the Division I stage, they represent just a fraction of the many county athletes competing across the college softball landscape this spring.
THE TIDE'S 1-2 PUNCH
Alabama's pitching staff featured a strong Baldwin County presence, led by freshman right-hander Vic Moten of Daphne who aided the Crimson Tide's 5-0 start. Moten emerged as the Tide's ace to begin the season, logging 15 innings across opening weekend while posting a 0.93 ERA. She struck out 19 batters against six walks, allowing only seven hits and two earned runs. The former Trojan started three consecutive days and earned wins over Villanova and Georgia Tech on two occasions.
Senior right-hander and Fairhope native Alea Johnson provided key relief innings behind Moten. Johnson threw four scoreless innings, striking out three while walking one. Former county rivals at Fairhope and Daphne, Johnson relieved Moten twice during Alabama's wins over Georgia Tech, helping secure a strong start for the Crimson Tide pitching staff.
FRESHMEN PHENOMS
Louisiana-Lafayette freshman Haley Hart wasted no time making her mark for the Ragin' Cajuns. The former Spanish Fort infielder started at second base and is batting .545 through the first four games. Hart blasted two home runs that made social media headlines, giving the Ragin' Cajuns an offensive spark in a 2-2 start to the season.
Orange Beach freshman Daigle Wilson also saw action during opening weekend for Auburn. Wilson appeared as a pinch hitter for the Tigers and recorded one hit in four at-bats, gaining valuable early experience at the SEC level. She was also named to the Softball America Top 100 freshmen list in the preseason.
