After a few days on the greens across southern Alabama, Baldwin County golfers punched their tickets to Sub-State with championship and runner-up finishes at sectionals.
In Class 7A, Daphne’s girls claimed the Section 1 title with a dominant 28-stroke win. Eighth-grader Kallie Ann Ollhoft advanced as an individual as well after earning low medalist honors for the section.
Fairhope’s boys team — Owen Reverman, Brody Speer, Evan Trotter and Matthew Freeman — ground out the scores needed to finish as 7A Section 1 runners-up, securing a spot in the next round.
Spanish Fort dominated the Class 6A Section 1 girls field, placing all three golfers inside the top five to capture the sectional team championship. On the boys' side, Spanish Fort’s Murray Walker continued his standout play, earning low medalist honors for the second consecutive year to advance as an individual.
Gulf Shores saw both team and individual success in 6A Section 2 after finishing runner-ups a year ago. Evelyn Lamar advanced as the lone girls' qualifier to sub-state, while the boys team of Graham Stewart, Grey Goodman, Chris Hand, Joey McAleer, Tino Heredia and Benny Plybon punched their ticket to the next round by claiming the sectional title.
In Class 5A, Elberta’s Chris Jones and Evan Carroll each qualified for sub-state with strong individual performances on the boys' side.
St. Michael’s boys team secured advancement out of the Class 4A sectional held in Troy, with Grady Saltz also moving on as an individual qualifier.
Orange Beach rounded out the county’s success in Class 4A, with both its boys and girls teams advancing to sub-state competition as well.
The Sub-State tournaments will take place in Tuscaloosa on May 4-5.
