GULF SHORES BOYS — Did not attend media day.

Head coach Jimbo Tolbert’s Dolphins finished 10-13 last year and last in Class 6A Area 2, but the returning group is aiming to turn the corner this season. Seniors Sam Vincent, Levi Howard and Cameron Helton will lead the way for a team that boasts size and versatility.

The Dolphins may begin the season short-handed, with several key players still competing on the football team.

Head coach Brian Sexton returns for his seventh season after leading the Dolphins to a 17-14 record and a runner-up finish in Class 6A Area 2 to McGill-Toolen last season. Gulf Shores reached regionals but fell in the first round.

“We have a lot of questions on who is going to score for us,” Sexton said. “We plan on going at least nine (players) deep in games to give people the opportunities to prove what they can do and see what makes us best.”

Seniors Kate Cimino and Taylor Bjorgum return as key contributors, alongside junior point guard Anna Murray. Sexton said the Dolphins plan to rely on speed and rebounding by committee after losing two top rebounders to graduation. “We gotta get out and run,” Sexton said.

Bjorgum added that she wants fans to see the team’s chemistry, while Cimino, an undersized forward, will use her strength near the rim to help control the paint.
