FOLEY BOYS
Veteran head coach Roosevelt Moore enters his 24th year of coaching with a plan to keep Foley playing fast and physical. The Lions finished 16-8 last season and placed third in 7A Area 2 behind Fairhope and Daphne.
“We want to play fast and physical,” Moore said. “We want to create a lot of organized chaos. It will look like we are all over the place, but we will make up for one another in different areas. A player may think he’s open, but we want to be able to rotate and communicate as a whole.”
Foley returns eight seniors, including starting point guard Curtis Sanders — a two-sport athlete who starts at quarterback on the football team — and Deandre Johnson. Moore said the program’s large senior classes each year help maintain a steady level of competition and prevent drop-offs.
FOLEY GIRLS
In her second season, head coach Shanece McKinney Sims is looking to build on a 25-4 campaign that saw Foley win the 7A Area 2 title before falling to Daphne in the Elite Eight.
“You can expect the same high energy,” Sims said. “Up and down the court, rebounding and just getting after people for 40 minutes.”
The Lions will rely on five seniors, including standouts Amiyah Carvin and Ashanti Bell. Carvin is a four-year varsity player who scored 1,000 points last season, while Bell is a dominant rebounder currently playing volleyball.
Sims said she prefers an up-tempo, transition-oriented offense built on rebounding and effort. With several athletes competing in multiple sports, she expects younger players to step up early while the Lions pursue another deep postseason run.
