Baldwin County basketball media day: Bayshore Christian Eagles preview

The Bayshore varsity boys team will open the season Nov. 6 at home against Robertsdale.

BAYSHORE CHRISTIAN BOYS

Head coach Andy Ryan is entering his second season leading the Bayshore Christian boys basketball program and is confident his team is ready to take the next step. The Eagles finished 6-15 last year, placing fourth in Class 2A Area 1, but made school history by winning their first-ever area tournament game. With several key players returning, Ryan believes the foundation is set for a stronger year.

“We want to improve on that,” Ryan said. “Expecting a lot out of our seniors this year — we return a good bit of our scoring. If you can return 50% of your scoring, that is a good amount. I think we return about 88% of our scoring. Doesn’t mean automatic success, but it is a good indicator that we have the ability to improve.”

Senior leaders Bobby Bynum and Milo Scott will anchor the lineup after leading the team in scoring and rebounding last season. Ryan said both are versatile players who can fit multiple roles — Bynum is a primary ball handler and scorer, while Scott is a slashing forward who can stretch the floor with his outside shot. Though the Eagles are a 2A school with 1A numbers, Ryan said that underdog mentality fuels their determination to compete for the area title.
