Some teams are still piling on multiple games throughout the week with tournaments, while others begin the heart of area play on the diamond around Baldwin County.
Either way, the hunt for a postseason berth has officially begun on both sides. So, let’s take a look at what teams are trending up as we begin April, and which athletes are making the biggest impacts for their programs.
TOP TEAMS
Orange Beach softball dominated the week once again, going 6-0 and now 25-0 on the season. The Makos are currently on a 43-game win streak, passing 2024’s Central-Phenix City for second-most consecutive wins of all-time in AHSAA history.
Sticking with the Makos, Orange Beach baseball went 2-1 on the week. After falling to St. Michael Catholic, the Makos won back-to-back low-scoring affairs over the Cardinals to secure a huge series win against an area opponent. Orange Beach is now 12-12 on the season as well, and 2-1 in 4A Area 1.
On the other side of the beach, Gulf Shores baseball went 3-1 this past week with a series win over area rival Spanish Fort. The Dolphins took the first game at home before splitting a doubleheader the next night on The Hill in Spanish Fort. Gulf Shores also took down future 5A area opponent Elberta to start the week.
Speaking of Elberta, the Warriors have won seven out of their last eight after starting the season 0-12. Elberta baseball is now sitting at 7-13 after sweeping LeFlore and taking down Citronelle to end the week — the Warriors are 6-0 in 5A Area 1 with a clean sweep over LeFlore, B.C. Rain and Williamson. Now, Elberta has set themselves up for a date with UMS-Wright next week for sole possession of the area lead.
Both Fairhope teams split the week 1-1. The Lady Pirates narrowed 7A Area 1 rival Daphne 3-2 late in the week, and Pirates baseball took down MGM before dropping a tough one to Auburn. Fairhope baseball still sits at the top of the county standings for a second straight week at 15-8, nonetheless.
Not too far down Highway 98, Bayshore Christian baseball picked up a big-time 2A Area 1 series win over Blacksher. The Eagles dropped the first game by a run before winning the next two games by just a combined three runs. Bayshore has Bayside Academy to start the next week before ending the season with all area games.
St. Michael Catholic softball hit its stride this past week as well, going 2-1. The Lady Cardinals run-ruled McGill-Toolen and later avenged an earlier season loss against Elberta with an 8-7 victory on the road.
Spanish Fort softball had an unusual 5-4-1 week in tournament play. After starting the week 3-0 with a pair of wins over area rival McGill, the Lady Toros lost three and tied one in the Chattanooga Christian tournament before bouncing back with a pair of victories again.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES
The Lady Toros were one of the teams to end the week Saturday morning, and that week was headlined by Maddie Nelson at the plate, going 16-for-25 with 12 RBIs, six doubles, one triple and a home run.
Ava Hodo led the nation’s No. 1-ranked Makos with a 9-for-17 week that included nine RBIs, one double, one triple and a pair of home runs. She and fellow senior teammate Teagan Revette have steadily climbed up the AHSAA career home run ladder this season.
Ace MK McMullan continued her tear through the season, tossing 18 total innings with 30 strikeouts and zero earned runs — and the next generation of Mako softball stars got involved too as Lily Justice had a big-time week. The Orange Beach freshman tossed 8.2 innings in the circle with 10 strikeouts, just two earned runs and also recorded an RBI at the plate.
For Orange Beach baseball, Davis Woodson led the Makos at the plate with a 4-for-8 showing in the St. Michael series. Campbell Tillman tossed all seven in the game two win, adding five strikeouts and just one earned run. Fellow Mako pitcher Ethan O’Meara had a great outing in game three to win the series as well, tossing 4.1 innings with 10 strikeouts and one earned run — the Orange Beach ace even hit a home run in game two.
Jacob O’Bryan had another stellar week at the dish for Gulf Shores baseball, going 8-for-16 with a pair of RBIs. Jesse Rogers started the week off right on the mound for the Dolphins with a two-inning, four-strikeout start against Elberta — and then ace John Luke Stephens followed up with a complete game in a 9-2 win over Spanish Fort with seven strikeouts.
In two games and 13.2 innings this past week, St. Michael softball ace Addison Pratt punched out 18 to reach the milestone of 100 strikeouts on the season, pitching less than 20 games. Pratt also went 5-for-8 at the plate with a pair of RBIs in the 1-1 week for the Cardinals.
Nassar Brooks tossed a complete game in the Lady Tigers’ run-rule win over MGM that included 12 punchouts, and followed it up with a complete game and eight more strikeouts in a 10-4 win over Satsuma. Brooks also went 6-for-12 at the plate last week with three RBIs and a double in Baldwin County softball’s 3-3 week.
Noah Cain dominated at the plate for Bayside baseball last week, going 4-for-8 with four RBIs, one double and a home run. Wyatt Williams tossed a complete five innings with four strikeouts and no walks in the Admirals’ 16-4 run-rule win over Satsuma, and Cooper Mason followed it to win the series with five innings of his own including 10 punchouts and no earned runs.
Brice Brooks went 5-for-9 with a double, a triple and a pair of RBIs in Elberta baseball’s 3-1 week. And Seamus Owens had the big performance on the mound again for the Warriors, tossing a complete game with eight strikeouts and no earned runs in a 17-1 win over LeFlore.
In the short week for the Fairhope programs, infielders Lance Wade and Mallory Earp showed out. Wade went 4-for-7 at the plate in a pair of games in the leadoff spot, and Earp went 3-for-5 with a double and a home run. Lady Pirates ace Addison Russell also turned in another great performance in the circle, tossing a complete game with eight strikeouts in a 3-2 win over Daphne.
Even though a handful of teams struggled to find success this week, there were still plenty of standout athletes within those programs. Starting off with Alex Daigle of Foley baseball, going 4-for-9 with five RBIs, a double and a home run in a 1-2 week for the Lions. In Foley’s lone 6-3 win over Brewer, Anthony Leverette tossed a complete game as well with seven strikeouts and just two earned runs.
Daphne softball also ended the week early Saturday morning, capping a 3-4 showing with a couple of wins in Calera. The Lady Trojans were led by Abby Johnson at the plate, going 10-for-19 with seven RBIs, four doubles and a home run.
In an 0-2 week for Daphne baseball, ace pitcher Parker Cranmore gave a complete-game effort with six punchouts and a pair of walks in a 2-1 loss to Auburn. Similarly, Coen Lambeth of Baldwin County baseball tossed six innings with seven strikeouts in a 2-1 loss to McGill — the Tigers went 0-3 last week in some tough matchups.
Braylin Blocker went 5-for-11 with four RBIs and a double in the Lady Golden Bears’ 1-2 week that included a close three-run loss to area rival Daphne. Brielen Adams also tossed a complete game from the circle with a pair of punchouts and one earned run in Robertsdale's 12-2 win over Cottage Hill Christian.
Evan Foster had similar success in Robertsdale baseball’s tough week as well, going 4-for-9 at the plate with a pair of RBIs and even started the lone win of the week for the Golden Bears on the mound, collecting four strikeouts.
