Baldwin County and the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will each contribute $500,000 to fund a new traffic signal at the intersection of US Highway 98 and County Road 91 in the Elberta/Lillian area, the Baldwin County Commission announced Tuesday.
The $1 million project was approved under a Construction Funding Agreement during the Commission’s October 21 meeting according to a news release.
“The Commission is proud to partner with ALDOT on this much-needed project,” said District 4 Commissioner Charles “Skip” Gruber in the release. “This traffic signal will enhance safety and help ease congestion for residents and commuters in the area.”
The project will install a mast-arm traffic signal, which is designed for improved visibility and long-term durability, according to a county news release. Baldwin County also plans capacity upgrades to County Road 91, including turn lanes, as part of the FY 2026 budget.
The intersection has been identified as a high-traffic area, and officials say the new signal and road improvements aim to reduce congestion and improve safety for drivers.
