FOLEY — Appalachian State left no doubt about its cross country dominance Friday morning, sweeping the men's and women's team titles for the second-consecutive year at the Sun Belt Conference Championships at Graham Creek Nature Preserve.
Texas State senior Abigail Parra claimed the women's individual crown with a time of 16 minutes, 52.10 seconds, leading a 1-2 finish for the Bobcats. Teammate Alexia Macias finished second in 17:09.40, followed by South Alabama's Charleen Elizondo in 17:12.50. Louisiana's Isabelle Russell (17:15.10) and Ella Segura (17:17.20) rounded out the top five.
App State placed five runners in the top 20 to win the women's team title with 77 points, ahead of Southern Mississippi (88) and Texas State (98).
On the men's side, Arkansas State's Carlo Martinez-Jaramillo won the 8K race in 24:04.41, edging ULM's Kgaogelo Moloisi by just two-tenths of a second. Martinez-Jaramillo passed Moloisi on the final lap with just a few yards remaining for a dramatic finish.
Louisiana's Henry Lyon took third in 24:05.51, while App State's Henry Stark (24:07.41) and Noah Martinson (24:09.71) finished fourth and fifth to pace the Mountaineers.
App State claimed the men's team title with a dominating 32 points, placing five runners in the top 10. Following the Mountaineers was Arkansas State (83) and ULM (103).
