All-American St. Michael cheerleaders perform at Cheez-It Citrus Bowl

Posted

Six cheerleaders from St. Michael Catholic High School were selected to perform during halftime of the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on New Year's Eve at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.

The Citrus Bowl is the seventh-oldest collegiate bowl game in the country and traditionally provides a national stage for elite cheerleaders and dancers from across the United States.

Cardinal cheerleaders Abigail Smeraglia, Ashley Mathews, Cabrini Calvery, Ella Tomlinson, Finley Sherrer and Mary Pierson Bailey took part in the nationally televised college football game, performing in front of a crowd of approximately 60,000 fans.

The St. Michael cheerleaders were among athletes invited after earning trophy honors at summer camps sanctioned by Varsity Spirit brands, including the Universal Cheerleaders Association, Universal Dance Association, National Cheerleaders Association, National Dance Alliance and Urban Cheerleading Experience.

Participants traveled to Orlando as a team and spent a week rehearsing in preparation for the Citrus Bowl halftime performance. In addition to their performance, the cheerleaders had the opportunity to visit Universal Studios Orlando during the trip.
