SENECA, S.C.— The Alabama Dixie Boys 14-year-old All-Stars baseball team from Fairhope met a tough team Monday in Mississippi's 14-year-old All-Stars out of Hattiesburg in their 14-division World Series in Seneca South Carolina.

The Mississippians handed Alabama their first tournament loss 15-13 in nine innings. The Magnolia State Dixie Boys and Fairhope continued to battle after a tie at 9-9 in seven innings of regulation forced the extra innings.

After falling into the elimination bracket Saturday, Florida—which Alabama beat in the tournament opener 10-8—knocked Alabama out of the tournament with a 15-9 win to give the Fairhope team a 2-2 record overall which included a second-round win over the host team South Carolina.

The Hattiesburg-based team then went on to sweep its way to claim the 14 Boys world Series title Wednesday with an eventual 3-2 win over Georgia.

The Florida team from Spring Hill had battled back after their initial loss to Fairhope with wins over Tennessee and South Carolina before falling to the Mississippi club 5-4 in the semifinals.

Georgia, represented by its team from Columbia County, had eliminated North Carolina in the other semifinal game before meeting Mississippi.

The Hattiesburg Junior Boys (13-year-olds) also won their Dixie Boys World Series for a Pine Belt sweep.

Fairhope's team of Brett Bishop, Tevin Brown, Chancellor Childress, Peyton Galich, Kody Gratkowski, David Hall, Brandon Jones, Camden Layton, Mason Lockhart, Phillip Martin, Brett Mosley and Caleb Rogers along with coaches Kevin Galich, Mark Gratkowski and Mike Jones went undefeated in the state tournament to claim the 2013 state championship.
