DAPHNE — A man and a woman on Wednesday were arrested on charges related to two purse snatchings that allegedly occurred at the Daphne Wal-Mart.
William Jordan, 44, of Spanish Fort was arrested on first-degree theft of property, second-degree theft of property and three counts of fraudulent use of a credit card.
Christina Dangelo, 30, of Louisiana was arrested on three counts of fraudulent use of a credit card.
Police on Wednesday spotted a black Ford Ranger that was reportedly involved in the purse snatchings, and determined that Dangelo was the owner, according to a Daphne PD news release.
Dangelo was arrested at a house on Pinehill Avenue for reportedly using some of the credit cards that were stolen during two purse snatchings: one that occurred June 6 and one June 7, police said.
Shortly, “It was determined that Jordan snatched both purses … ” and police arrested him, according to the release.
The pair are currently being held at the Daphne jail, police Lt. Jud Beedy said.
“They are in our facility awaiting transport to the Baldwin County jail,” he said.
“We have not recovered any of the (stolen) property,” he added.
Beedy said three lawmen were responsible for Jordan’s and Dangelo’s arrests: Detective James Mathews, Detective Joe Taylor and Cpl. Donald Bettner.
“It was a joint effort between those three to get them in custody today,” Beedy said.
First-degree theft of property is a class B felony with a prison sentence between two years and 20 years; fines cannot exceed $10,000, according to police.
Second-degree theft of property and fraudulent use of a credit card are class C felonies with a prison sentence between one year and a day and 10 years; fines cannot exceed $5,000, police said.
“Each charge can bring about those fines,” Beedy said.
For instance, if convicted on three counts of a class C felony, it could mean three times the maximum fine.
“If she (Dangelo) got maxed out she could get $15,000 in fines,” Beedy said.
Prior to Wednesday’s arrests, police had been searching for an unidentified black man who reportedly snatched two purses in the late morning, Beedy said.
The purses were taken after the victims exited the store and got into their vehicles, police said.
“The black man approached the vehicles and snatched the purses from the victims, ran back to his vehicle and left the scene,” according to the release.
