DAPHNE, Ala. – Bayside Academy head football coach Phil Lazenby recorded a milestone win on Friday, October 30, when the Bayside Admirals defeated the Elberta Warriors 42–21. The victory was Coach Lazenby’s 100th win at Bayside Academy.
Lazenby graduated from Bessemer High School and Samford University. He was the secondary coach at Jess Lanier for five seasons (1976-80) before joining the Mountain Brook staff. Lazenby served as an assistant and defensive coordinator at Mountain Brook from 1981-90.
In 1992 he accepted the head coaching job at Guntersville where his teams went 38-18 in five seasons and earned three region titles. At Benjamin Russell his teams won another three region crowns and made the Super Six twice. At Bayside the Admirals have made the playoffs 11 times including the Super-Six championship game in 2015.
His career head-coaching record is 185-99 overall. He has also been named Coach of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association in 1997 and 2011.
The Admirals (8-2) hope to add to the victory column Friday night in round one of the 2020 state playoffs at Montgomery Catholic (8-2).
