Four local baseball teams are still standing as one of eight remaining in their respective classifications entering this weekend.
Bayshore Christian (Class 2A), Baldwin County (Class 6A), Spanish Fort (Class 6A) and Fairhope (Class 7A) all swept last week’s series to advance to the Elite Eight.
The Pirates from Fairhope earned their first opening-round win since 2015 and the Tigers from Baldwin County are in their first state quarterfinal since 2017. The Toros from Spanish Fort are in their second straight and the Eagles from Bayshore Christian are in their first Elite Eight on the Class 2A stage although they will see a familiar foe.
Last year served as the Eagles’ debut in Class 2A since being moved up due to the Competitive Balance Factor but Pike Liberal Arts eliminated them in the second round. Now, those same Patriots have also earned two sweeps to set up a rematch.
Spanish Fort and Baldwin County were both set to be home this weekend and could activate an intra-county state semifinal with wins over Wetumpka and Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa, respectively.
Fairhope was scheduled to hit the road and face an Auburn Tiger squad who won the Class 7A crown in 2021 and 2018 and is in its first Elite Eight since 2022.
The Gulf Shores Dolphins (Class 5A) fell in last week’s second round in a decisive Game 3 against the Tallassee Tigers to finish 28-12 overall following their fourth consecutive area title.
