BAY MINETTE, Ala. - Baldwin County High School’s Lady Tigers enjoyed a season for the record books. The 2019 team advanced to the Elite 8, tied a school record of 34 wins, all four seniors earned athletic scholarships and several players broke or tied school records.
The Lady Tigers held an end-of-year banquet to celebrate the varsity and junior varsity teams and recognize outstanding players. The guest speaker was Jack Byerley, former head coach at Northwest Florida State College and former Auburn Tigers and Florida Gators assistant softball coach.
The BCHS varsity team recorded 34 wins for the season and made it to the AHSAA 6A State Tournament (Elite 8) for the first time since 2002. Although the varsity came up short from winning the state championship, Coach Anthony Cox said he was extremely proud of the “hard work and dedication that these young ladies put into this season and how they represented Baldwin County High School and the City of Bay Minette.”
Varsity team members included Ava Worthy, Kahalley Brooks, Laura Weatherford, Layla Hadley, Bailey Cox, Adrian Cook, Lanna McCaskill, Ashlynn Wasdin, Kennedy Smith, Leighanna Turk, Kaitlyn Stephens, Aspen Gerald, Kierra Means, and Emma Weatherford.
