The YMCA of South Alabama is launching a new initiative to expand access to health and wellness for the community.

During November, eligible SNAP recipients and federal employees can receive free access to all YMCA of South Alabama facilities.

According to a news release, the program is open to individuals who present valid SNAP documentation, such as an EBT card or award letter, and to federal employees with official ID or verification. Participants must complete a membership application and acknowledge program terms to take part.

Those enrolled in the program will have full access to YMCA fitness centers, swimming pools and group exercise classes. Participating locations include Bounds Family YMCA in Daphne, North Mobile Family YMCA in Saraland, Snook Family YMCA in Foley and Spanish Fort Y Express in Spanish Fort. No joining fee or monthly dues are required for the month of November.

"As the Y, we believe everyone in our community deserves access to health, well-being and connection," CEO Gwen Sommer said in the release. "We know that SNAP recipients and federal workers often face unique financial pressures, and this program is our way of saying — you matter, and we're here for you."
