Kindergartners in Mrs. Hawes’ class studied plants and even planted bean seeds.
Mrs. McGinty’s kindergartners are “deep in the rain forest.” They are also learning about Africa and specifically Tanzania. They will make African masks, art work, learn about symbols, and the animals of Africa.
Mrs. D. Smith’s and Ms. V. Smith’s kindergarten classes are concentrating on zoo animals this week. They made their own drawings of a giraffe and they love to listen to “Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed.”
Mr. Ayers’ and Mrs. Hopkins’ classes are excited about their trip to Five Rivers after spring break.
Mrs. Bailey’s class is learning to write book reports and give oral presentations. The class is thinking of the many ways they can make book reports be creative and exciting. In this process they are learning the story elements of setting, characters, problem and solution. The class will be sharing their ideas with their class friends by presenting their favorite book.
Second-graders in Mrs. Stembridge’s class have been learning how to measure objects. They are also learning about capacity. The class made a “gallon” man to help them remember how many pints, cups and quarts are in one gallon.
Third-graders in Mrs. Lisa Blackmon’s class recently completed a really fun book report. They used empty cereal boxes to create a model of a book that they recently read. There are some amazing “books” now on display in their room, complete with a front cover, spine and a summary on the back.
The library will hold a spring book fair April 28 to May 2. Please have all books and materials turned into the library before May 8.
The DES library closes for inventory May 9.
