Weather watches lifted, soggy Saturday cancels Silverhill 'Heritage' event

Mobile, Ala. – Severe weather hazards have now been lifted for the central Gulf Coast region. The Mobile NWS station issued a weekend-long flash flood warning Friday afternoon for Baldwin and Mobile counties in Alabama, as well as all coastal Mississippi counties and Florida panhandle counties.

Some passing showers may linger in the region through Sunday, especially along the coast.

Among weather cancellations on Saturday was the announcement that all events and festivities planned for the annual Silverhill Heritage Day would have to be rescheduled. Initial reports indicate an alternate event date for December may be planned.

The cancellation call was promptly legitimized when torrential rains began drenching central Baldwin County and Silverhill by around 11:00 a.m. The 2013 celebration of the Heritage Day event would be the 30th annual edition.

Approaching rains with some embedded lightning cut short Coastal Cleanup activity Saturday morning in some locations, though volunteers were up and out early prior to the rainfall's approach along Alabama beaches and waterways, removing tons of trash from our shorelines.

Rip Current warnings remain in place today with flags flying at RED status.
