I have seen several signs and banners announcing Vacation Bible School at different churches.
I sure hope that you have made plans to attend one of them. It’s always a wonderful learning experience for all ages. Plus there’s games, food and other activities.
This week Vacation Bible School is also being held at Union Baptist Church at 955 Carroll Avenue in the Douglasville Community. With today being Thursday, you will have today and tomorrow to get in on all the fun.
It begins at 5:30 p.m. If you need a ride you can call the church at 937-3388 and someone will pick you up, or call 937-9086. Johnnie Fountaine is the chairman and the Rev. Dwight Boykin is pastor.
There use to be an old saying, “Don’t get to big for your britches (pants)”. Well, I think that we all may need to be reminded of that sometimes.
First of all, none of us should look down our noses at others. No matter who we are. What we have. Where we came from or what we have accomplished. We must remember none of it is about us — it’s about Jesus.
Some of us know that, but, not everyone.
We cannot forget that everybody is not at the same mile marker in the race. Yet, we should not and cannot hold that against them.
We were not always where we are and someone was patient with us.
So, where is our patience with others? How easy we sometimes forget.
Some of us may run longer. Some of us may run faster. Some of us may run even harder. Yet, the reward is given to the one who holds out to the end. The one who finishes the race.
I may be at the 50-mile marker when you start but if you finish the race —- your reward is the same. But, you must be in the race.
In the race is such a perfect phrase for so many areas. First of all we could be in the race to provide better assistance for the elderly. If so, stay in the race. You may be in the race to help provide more support and activities for our young people. You may be in the race to help educate our adults on different programs or on how to be better parents in this society today.
You may be in the race to become a more self sufficient person.
It may very well be that you just don’t want your living to be in vain.
It may be that you just want to, one day, fly away to be at rest.
It may be that you just want to see that land just beyond the river.
It could be that you want every day to be howdy and never “goodbye.”
If so, stay in the race. The reward is much greater than the race.
Until next week, let’s remember to be patient with others. It may be our last opportunity to do so.
