Independence Day or the Fourth of July was this week, Wednesday. While a few celebrations were held specifically on that day, most celebrations will be held this weekend.
Just a few reminders for this week, plus a caution to be careful with fireworks. The number one thing is to not allow fireworks to be used without adult supervision. Fireworks are beautiful but very harmful if they are not handled properly.
Let’s be considerate of others and especially the elderly when firing them off. Please do not aim them at anyone. So, just remember to use every safety precaution necessary.
Don’t forget that the Douglasville Alumni Association will host their annual Class Night fundraiser Saturday, July 7, at the Bay Minette Civic Center at 7: 30 p.m. The speaker will be the Rev. Charles Anderson of Jacksonville, Fla. He is a former resident of Stockton and a member of the Class of 1970. Please come and support the association. Anyone can attend, and, yes, it’s an open door program. All proceeds will go to the scholarship drive. James Cox is president and Clarence Gardner is vice president.
On Sunday, July 8, Union Baptist Church of Bay Minette will celebrate annual Women Day at 11 a.m. You are invited to share this very special event in the Lord. All ladies are asked to wear white and baby pink or light pink flowers. Betty Brown is chairman, Amanda Robinson is assistant chairman and the Rev. Dwight Boykin is pastor.
The Area Women Action group will have their annual kick off meeting next Saturday, July 14, at Union Baptist Church in Bay Minette at 11 a.m. The meeting is for all contestants who wish to be in the 2007 Miss AWAG pageant slated Sept. 29.
All parents are asked to attend this meeting with the young ladies. Union Baptist is at 955 Carroll Ave. in the Douglasville community. All members are asked to be there at 10 a.m. for a special meeting.
Welcome home to my daughter and grandchildren, from Virginia Beach, Vir.
My daughter is Cynthia Higgins-Bailey and my grandchildren are Jasmin Bailey and Ivan Bailey. Unfortunate my son-in-law was not able to make the trip with them but he will most definitely be here for the Roots of Alabama Reunion.
I love you guys and glad to have you home for the holiday and the Thompson’s family reunion.
Let’s continue to pray for the sick and shut-ins everywhere.
Until next week, be safe and be blessed.
