The Wacky Shrimp has sold its last shrimp.

After 12 years serving Baldwin County, The Wacky Shrimp's Facebook page announced Tuesday, June 25, that the last day of operation was Friday, June 21. According to the information provided, the neighboring Chick-fil-A entered into an agreement with The Wacky Shrimp two years ago to acquire the property. The deal was finalized Monday, June 24.

Gulf Coast Media contacted Chick-fil-A for details on what is planned for the property and received the following statement from Chick-fil-A Inc.:

"We are pleased to share that Chick-fil-A Daphne is currently preparing to undergo a remodel to make overall improvements to the restaurant, including interior and exterior updates to enhance the guest and team member experience. The restaurant is slated to begin construction in late July. Chick-fil-A Daphne looks forward to remaining a part of this community and continuing to serve guests with great food and remarkable service."

Chick-fil-A Inc. further clarified that the project will include the demolition on the existing Chick-fil-A building and the construction of the newest Chick-fil-A prototype with improvements. The Wacky Shrimp property will be used for parking and drive through enhancements.

A look back at Daphne Planning Commission minutes from March 2023 shows a site plan approval for the demolition of both the current Chick-fil-A building and The Wacky Shrimp and the construction of a new Chick-fil-A. During the discussion, it was noted that the Alabama Department of Transportation required a right/in right/out onto U.S. Highway 98 and coordination during construction for Lavender Lane.

The $5.6 million Lavender Lane extension project is currently under construction. The road will provide residents and visitors access to businesses such as Chick-fil-A and Target. The road routes drivers behind The Wacky Shrimp and Chick-fil-A and a new traffic signal will be installed in front of the Daphne Police Headquarters. The project will also eliminate left-hand turns from Chick-fil-A onto U.S. 98.
