Musicians Beverly Jo Scott and Lisa Mills plan to share the stage at Fairhope’s American Legion Post 199 (700 S. Mobile St.) on Sunday afternoon. Last summer the pair hooked up in Europe and made plans to work together.
Although a year has passed, neither has forgotten about the meeting and both are excited about the possibilities. The Memorial Day weekend show will showcase both writers’ songs and will certainly be a performance to remember.
Scott lived her early years in Bay Minette. Her need to roam led her to travel the U.S. before tackling Europe.
The troubadour found a home playing the streets of Belgium, but quickly moved up to club dates. Her talent and amazing voice was recognized instantly, and she went on to work with many popular bands including Zap Mama and Deep Forest.
Her own career called and she toured and recorded almost nonstop. Her first three albums were released on Sony/Columbia records, followed by four independent releases.
Known for her amazingly sensual voice that denotes her Southern upbringing, Scott’s music is firmly rooted in Southern rock while adding an infectious groove to the mix.
Her live shows are memorable for their energy and dynamics. She has shared the stage with Neil Young, Roger McGuinn and James Brown.
Scott is extremely popular in Europe, but returns home once a year to see her family and play a few select dates.
It has been said that “Beverly Jo Scott is living proof that rock music has a heart and a soul.”
Mills grew up in Mississippi, and started her career as a sculptor. Music called and her first album drew the attention of Sam Andrew from Big Brother and the Holding Company.
Mills toured with Big Bro as Janis Joplin’s replacement for several years. Her powerful voice and amazing performances led to critical acclaim in Europe.
Mills returned to the South and recorded two successful independent albums, “I’m Changing” and the live “By Invitation Only.” She is well known in the Southeast for her dynamic songs, her great stage presence and her amazingly soulful voice.
The Kudzu Music Group presents Scott and Mills on the Post’s outdoor stage overlooking beautiful Mobile Bay. Delicious barbecue will also be available at the Smoke Shed.
The show begins at 3 pm, and the gates open at 2.
