GULF SHORES — South Baldwin Christian Academy checked off a couple of firsts during Aug. 19’s volleyball tournament. Not only was it the school’s inaugural host tournament, but after varsity split into two teams, the Grey squad won the Knights’ first athletic trophy with a second-place finish.
The middle school team followed that up by winning their tournament the following week which extended an unbeaten streak to open the season.
“This past month, we hosted our first-ever Varsity & Middle School Volleyball Tournaments with teams from Mississippi, Florida and Alabama. These valiant ladies definitely left everything they had on the SBCA court in a one-day tournament showcasing 10 hours of continuous action,” said athletic director Jason Norris.
The Knight varsity squad entered the tournament as two teams who eventually met in the semifinal match of the championship bracket. With the Grey team’s victory, they hoisted the first trophy won by a South Baldwin Christian Academy varsity squad.
However, it was not long before another trophy joined the case when the middle school team collected first place with an undefeated run through their tournament the following week. That also marked the initial first-place trophy earned by a Knights athletic team.
“The SBCA volleyball programs are showing a strong presence for a multitude of years to come amongst the Lower Baldwin sports,” Norris said.
