MOBILE — The Reese’s Senior Bowl, partnering with the NFL Players Association, announced the most prestigious college football all-star game’s 75th Anniversary Team on Tuesday, Nov. 14.
The theme for the 75th celebration will be “The Legends Return,” when the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl kicks off at noon on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024 (televised nationally on NFL Network). The halftime ceremony will include recognition of the 75th Anniversary Team.
The long, rich history of the Senior Bowl includes 56 players who have been enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, and 19 of those all-time greats are part of this year’s 75th Anniversary Team.
In addition to the 19 Pro Football Hall of Famers, the lineup includes 8 NFL MVP awards, 119 All-Pro 1st-Team selections, 63 All-Pro 2nd-Team selections, 253 Pro Bowl selections, 3 Rookie of the Year selections, 2 Offensive Rookie of the Year selections, 5 Defensive Rookie of the Year selections, 8 NFL Defensive Player of the Year selections, 4 AFC & NFC Defensive Player of the Year selections, and 5 NFL Offensive Player of the Year selections.
“The history of our game means everything to us here at the Senior Bowl so this is a special announcement,” Senior Bowl Executive Director Jim Nagy said. “This 75th Anniversary Team includes many of the greatest players in NFL history and they are all legendary players for their respective franchises. We look forward to bringing these all-time greats back to where their NFL journeys started, the city of Mobile, Alabama. The Senior Bowl is grateful for our partners at the NFLPA for helping to make this celebration happen.”
The 75th Anniversary Team selections were made through a process that included a public online fan vote, a poll of all 32 NFL general managers, and consideration from the Senior Bowl’s selection committee.
“Our union is built for the players and by the players, and this 75th Anniversary Team features some of our best and brightest members over the years,” NFLPA Chief Operating Officer Teri Smith said. “We congratulate everyone who made this prestigious list and are honored to partner with the Senior Bowl, which played a pivotal role in these players’ legendary careers.”
The Legends React
“What an honor to be on the 75th Team,” said former Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders running back Shaun Alexander. “As I think about this team of Legends that I played against or watched over the years, I am amazed that we all started our journey with this game. Our last time repping our college and at the same time being coached by the pros. I am thankful for the Senior Bowl and congratulations to all the players on the 75th Anniversary Team.”
“I am so humbled and honored to be amongst this great group of players, especially these linebackers. Thank you to all the voters,” former Tampa Bay Buccaneers inside linebacker Derrick Brooks said. “The Senior Bowl impacted so much of my player career and set the stage for me to show the NFL personnel that I was ready for the NFL.”
“What an honor to be chosen for the Senior Bowl 75th Team. To be named on the same roster as some of the all-time greats is humbling,” said former Seattle Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings offensive lineman Steve Hutchinson. “The Senior Bowl was one of the first steppingstones towards the type of NFL career I ended up having. It set the tone early as to what the league was all about.”
