The Sea Glass Initiative's hot meal program, The Table, aims to feed people where they are. Earlier this month, the nonprofit did just that.
The group served over 300 hot meals and delivered more than 500 bagged meal kits to those in need in partnership with New Fellowship Worship Center in the Mills Community, a small and tight-knit area north of Foley.
"The response has been overwhelming," said Michelle Hillman, executive director of Sea Glass. "We are finding that this is filling a gap in a way that we weren't expecting."
Not everyone in need can make it to distribution centers to receive food assistance, whether they're obstacled by transportation, work or other home factors. The hot meals The Table serves are all made from scratch and distributed by volunteers at designated drop off points in communities where the organization has identified a need. The bagged meal kits include ingredients to be cooked at home, like spaghetti, Shepard's pie and Tex Mex skillets.
Sea Glass Initiative was founded in September 2023 by three nonprofit directors who saw a gap in services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Baldwin County. The organization has grown its community outreach services since then.
