Robertsdale High School students designed and installed new landscaping in front of the Loxley COS building, used by the Baldwin County Board of Education (BCBE) for board meetings.
This project was student-led from start to finish as students selected the plants, planned the details and installed every plant on March 4, according to a press release.
Students in the CTE agriculture class partnered with BCBE Grounds and Maintenance to execute the design. Flowerwood Nursery partnered with the school to support the students' vision and make it happen.
"They worked hard, they problem-solved, they collaborated, they took ownership and they absolutely shined," the release states. "Watching them bring their vision to life was nothing short of inspiring."
Projects like this enhance CTE programs by allowing students to practice real-world skills in a hands-on environment. In taking responsibility for a project, students get a first-hand glance at local impact.
This was more than a landscaping project, the release states, as students earned the opportunity to collaborate with industry partners and each other in a semi-classroom setting.
