In perusing the massive, immensely complex and unfathomable “Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007,” I found in Section 643 the following language relating to the Oath of Allegiance that a new citizen of the United States is required to take:
“… (2) If a person, by reason of religious training and belief (or individual interpretation thereof) or for other reasons of good conscience, cannot take the oath prescribed in paragraph (1)—
(A) with the term ‘oath’ included, the term ‘affirmation’ shall be substituted
(B) with the phrase ‘so help me God’ included, the phrase ‘so help me God’ shall be omitted …”
If I had to guess, President Bush, the ACLU, most of our U.S. Senators and Congressmen, and many in the main stream media would prefer that the American public not be aware that the law actually omits “so help me God” in the oath (or affirmation or statement or casual remarks or whatever suits one’s beliefs) of allegiance.
Also, the phrase “bear arms” can be omitted if the new potential citizen is opposed to bearing arms. My opinion is that anyone coming into our country and enjoying its freedom, opportunity and benefits should be willing to defend it. America does not need any more freedom and peace-loving liberal socialists who believe that freedom happens through diplomacy and being loved in the world.
I favor maximizing legal immigration and eventually addressing the issues and needs of the mostly hardworking illegal immigrants currently here. First priority: Do not omit God from oath. Second priority: Seal all borders and develop a tracking system. Third priority: Let a future president and Senate fix a broken immigration system. President Bush and the senators supporting Senate Bill 1348 are doing damage to our future. The bill is not amnesty, it is an abomination and will create chaos if implemented.
It is my hope that if the Senate passes this bill, the U.S. House of Representatives will reject it outright and develop a border bill the American public can support.
