Although it is still early in the season, Week 3 has some games that could have major playoff implications as many Baldwin County teams will kick off region play and the race to the postseason.
Robertsdale and Gulf Shores are set to host their first games within Class 7A and Class 6A Region 1, respectively, as Bayside Academy prepares to welcome a former region foe.

Foley Lions at Robertsdale Golden Bears
Two 2-0 teams will clash for Central Baldwin supremacy to open Class 7A Region 1 play at JD Sellars Stadium.
The last time both teams met with undefeated records was in 2013 when each came in 1-0 to begin region play. Foley has won 14 of the last 15 matchups with Robertsdale having lost last in 2020, head coach Deric Scott’s first year at the helm.
The Lions lead the all-time series against the Golden Bears by a 77-17-6 margin according to the Alabama High School Football Historical Society. This week’s game will mark the 101st meeting between Foley and Robertsdale.
Orange Beach Makos at Bayside Academy Admirals
Once a region matchup, Bayside Academy and Orange Beach will now meet to wrap up non-region play this year as both teams enter 1-1 overall.
Each team won one game as Class 4A Region 1 opponents where Bayside Academy used last year’s win as the first of three-straight victories to lock in a playoff spot. This year, the Admirals will return to Class 3A with a trip to Monroe County on next week’s docket.
Orange Beach opened against a pair of Class 5A opponents and started with an overtime win over Elberta before last week’s defeat to Citronelle. The Makos are set to open region play at home against W.S. Neal next week.
Saraland Spartans at Gulf Shores Dolphins
A potential Game of the Year candidate will be played at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex as the Dolphins play host to the Saraland Spartans.
Saraland will enter 2-0 fresh off two-straight trips to the Class 6A state championship game. Going back to 2018, the Spartans have won at least 10 games every year, with another trip to the finals, and have captured three Region 1 crowns.
Although the defending Class 5A state champion Dolphins will bring their 0-2 record to the table, senior running back and Mississippi State commit Kolin Wilson ran wild for 360 rushing yards against Class 7A MGM last week.
Gulf Shores won its first two meetings against Saraland in 2010 and 2011, but Saraland has won the last nine in a row. The teams last clashed in 2021.
