North Baldwin man charged, neighbor injured after argument, shooting

A North Baldwin man has been arrested after his neighbor went to the emergency room earlier today with gunshot wounds to his torso, thigh and hand.

The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office received a call from North Baldwin Infirmary on Nov. 18 stating that a man had come into the ER with gunshot injuries. The man told Uniform Services deputies his neighbor shot him when he was in his yard on Dixon Road in the Crossroads Community. Deputies on scene located a suspect, 65-year-old Herbert Eddie Killcreas, as his home on Wiggins Lane, about 100 yards from the victim’s home.

According to the sheriff’s office, the two are friends and neighbors who reportedly got into an argument over the victim turning off the hot water while the suspect was showering at the victim’s house. The suspect supposedly left the victim’s home and retrieved a shotgun from his truck and returned to shoot the victim on the steps to his home, the sheriff’s office says.

The suspect reportedly told deputies he only intended to scare the man and didn’t intend to hit him.

The victim is being treated for his injuries, but they are not believed to be life-threatening, the sheriff’s office says.

Killcreas has been charged with second-degree assault and booked into the Baldwin County Corrections Center.
