One of the first actions newly sworn in City of Spanish Fort Mayor Brad Bass took on Monday night was to give the inaugural Spirit of Spanish Fort Award to Dr. Barry Booth and proclaim Nov. 3, 2025, Dr. Barry Booth Day.

The new honor is to be annually bestowed on someone who has made significant contributions to and positive impact for the City of Spanish Fort.

Booth, a longtime dentist in Spanish Fort, is also known for his veterans advocacy and philanthropy. He played a key role in developing the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery by donating the land to make it possible. He also founded Honor Flight South Alabama and was given the Distinguished Service Medal by Gov. Kay Ivey in 2022.

Also sworn in Monday were members of Spanish Fort City Council: Curt Smith, District 1 (returning); Carl Gustafson, District 2 (returning); Drew Ramsey, District 3 (new); Steve Winn, District 4 (returning); and Mary Brabner, District 5 (returning).

Micah Green contributed with on-scene reporting.
