LOXLEY, Ala. — Carolyn Middleton, accused of manslaughter in the alleged drunken driving death of Jacob Clemmons, has been returned to jail for allegedly violating the conditions of her $100,000 bond. The April 14 accident happened at the intersection of County Road 68 and North Holly Street in Loxley.
According to information received from the District Attorney’s office, the 60-year-old Middleton was released on bond May 2. She is a resident of Loxley.
One of the conditions of the bond stated “…you are (a) Under house arrest and are not to leave your listed address without prior approval and the Court except for church, medical emergency, attorney visit or court appearance.”
The District Attorney’s office says that two eyewitnesses place Middleton at her grandson’s t-ball game May 10, a violation of her bond. The release says both are willing to testify in the matter.
According to an official at the Baldwin County Corrections Center, Middleton was taken back into custody at 10:15 p.m. May 17 and her processing was completed a little after 3 a.m. May 18. As of this writing she remains in the custody of the Baldwin County Sheriff.
Clemmons, 20, an aspiring rodeo bull rider, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by his cousin, Erica Clemmons, 19, police said.
On Clemmons’ MySpace page, he wrote that he’d like to meet, “The guy who writes the million dollar check at the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) finals.”
Both Middleton and Erica Clemmons were treated at nearby hospitals and later released, according to officials. Clemmons was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
